This site is being set up for the conservation and commemoration of the Jewish communities throughout a long history, from the Middle Ages up to World War II
that flourished in the region of the Bukovina.
This site is an effort to assemble existing information about the cities and the picturesque villages in which Jews lived. Every one of those towns and villages was enriched by Jewish life, its culture, art and science. The people living there developed their unique language and community life. There are still some authentic and exciting memorabilia of this vibrant cultural life left. Works of art, poetry and literature, evidence collected by survivors who are still among us and dispersed all over the world but share a common memory of a Bukovina which should never be forgotten. The site will serve as the basis of information which, we hope, will preserve for future generations and researchers the wonderful heritage of a community which was partly annihilated in the Holocaust.
